The Monument for Peace was erected by Dr. Farid Mattar in 1963 as an ecological monument and a tribute to recycling. Constructed only with stones and leftovers from construction sites all over the city of Caracas, each stone was placed, according to Mattar’s own words, “in the name of each Venezuelan newborn boy and girl.” Its creator, a Lebanese who settled in Venezuela, intended to create a building denoting united races and religions.
