Two monumental limestone hands, one representing the community, the other representing the Nia Center, come together to create the massive Opportunity Portal. They stand over 14′ tall and 20′ wide and are illuminated at night. The Nia Center, which takes its name from the Swahili word nia, meaning purpose, provides assistance with employment, small business development, and transportation. Designed by Don Lawler and Meg White, it was installed in 2000.
