As described on the plaque, which is embedded in sidewalk, this this clock was donated by the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation to the people of Baton Rouge in celebration of its founding 75 years ago, in 2004. It was erected in January 2015.
The quotation is from RFK:
“Laws can embody standards; governments can enforce laws—but the final task is not a task for government. It is a task for each and every one of us. Every time we turn our heads the other way when we see the law flouted—when we tolerate what we know to be wrong—when we close our eyes and ears to the corrupt because we are too busy, or too frightened—when we fail to speak up and speak out—we strike a blow against freedom and decency and justice.” Robert F. Kennedy
Kennedy was Attorney General when he said these words in a speech before the Joint Defense Appeal of the American Jewish Committee and the Anti-Defamation League of the B’nai B’rith, Chicago, Illinois, June 21, 1961.
(I took this photo is 2023. Note the sloppy cement job on the plaque . . .)
